The Tanguero Workshop, presented by Cuarteto Tanguero, brings together students and renowned Argentine Tango professionals from around the globe for an immersive educational experience in the heart of Toronto.
Each day will provide a variety of activities, including classes, private lessons, small ensemble coachings, orquesta típica rehearsals, master classes. Additional community activities provides a diverse immersion in tango music, dance, culture, and history — past and present.
See our Classes page for an example of a typical day at the workshop.
Open to Adult and Youth (ages 12 and up – accompanied by parents if under 18) on Bandoneón, Strings (Violin, Viola, Cello, Bass), Guitar, and Piano. Note that piano registration is now full, no further pianists are being accepted. We welcome all level of players, ages 18+.
Note for guitarists: Guitarists are welcome to sign up! This is the first year we are attempting to accommodate guitarists. If enough guitarists register we’ll create an ensemble tailored to that instrument. The workshop is a great opportunity to learn the Argentine tango and folkloric styles for guitar, as well as participate in arranging and a la parilla sessions.
The Tanguero Workshop has a place for every tango musician. Seasoned tangueros come to share ideas with others from around the globe, to get access to unique tango resources, and to play and study with world-renowned tango maestros. Those newer to tango are quickly swept into a multifaceted tango experience, learning solid idiomatic tango technique for their instrument, and participating in different elements of tango culture in a supportive, community environment.
All attendees, amateur to professional, are matched with people of similar levels. Although we do not require a formal audition to be accepted to this workshop, newcomers are asked for a 10-15 minutes quick Skype chat so that we can assign you the right materials.
